PORTLAND (AP) – Jury selection began Monday in the U.S. District Court trial of an 18-year-old Fryeburg man accused of setting a fire last October that destroyed the gymnasium at Fryeburg Academy.
Maxx Noble, who was arrested in January in Florida, was charged with arson and conspiracy. His trial will begin Aug. 21,
No one was injured in the fire, which destroyed the $1.7 million recreation complex along with most of the school’s athletic gear.
Another suspect, Philip Thibault, 20, was arrested last December in Michigan and pleaded guilty to an arson charge.
Thibault was a 2003 graduate of Fryeburg Academy; Noble attended the school but did not graduate.
