AUBURN – Central Maine Community College will offer Wastewater Treatment Operator I (CED001-21) from from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 7 through Nov. 9. The cost of $475 includes a textbook. Registration deadline is Monday, Aug. 28.
The course is designed to train those who are working in the wastewater treatment sector to safely and effectively operate and maintain wastewater treatment plants; it is based on the Sacramento training program. Students will prepare for the Maine Wastewater Operator I exam.
Participants will learn the practical aspects of operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plants, emphasizing the use of safe practices and procedures. Information presented will include the role and responsibilities of a treatment plant operator, an explanation of why wastes must be treated and detailed descriptions of the equipment and processes used in a wastewater treatment plant.
Participants will learn to operate and maintain racks, screens, comminutors, sedimentation tanks, trickling filters, rotating biological contactors, package activated sludge plants, oxidation ditches, ponds and chlorination facilities.
Participants will also learn to analyze and solve operational problems and to perform mathematical calculations relating to wastewater treatment process control. The class schedule includes field trips to area facilities. Student will meet at the plant on those evenings.
