PHILLIPS – Two vehicles were totaled Thursday when a Jay man tried to turn around on Park Street in the path of an oncoming car.

About 2:05 p.m, Wendall Kolreg, 46, of Jay tried to turn around on Route 142 and struck a red 1999 Chevrolet van driven by Eric Savage, 42, of Phillips, state trooper Scott Nichols said Thursday.

Kolreg’s passenger, Antonia Likanoff, 47, of Phillips was treated and released at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Kolreg, Savage and his two passengers – Peter Campbell, 41, and Laurel Coleman, 54, both of Phillips, were unharmed, Nichols said.

Both Savage’s car and Kolreg’s 2000 gold Ford Ranger were totaled.

“He did not see the other vehicle proceeding northbound,” Nichols said of Kolreg. “It’s kind of a blind turn, and it caused a head-on collision.”

Nichols said speed was not a factor in the accident, and no one was seriously injured because everyone was wearing a seat belt and all air bags deployed.
