MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – When stores go out of business, they often have big sales to clear out their products, but a Manchester market had another idea.

When Golomb’s Market closed its doors this month after 85 years in business, it donated 5 tons of food to the New Hampshire Food Bank.

Fran Golomb said her family decided to donate after hearing the Food Bank needed help so it could keep supplying food kitchens and pantries around the state.

The donation was a boost as the Food Bank supplies hit an all-time low this month.

but it’s nearly gone now and the agency says it can’t keep up with demand.

Executive Director Melanie Gosselin says donations are down and demand is up.
