BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Red Sox called up left-handed pitcher Craig Breslow and outfielder David Murphy from Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, the first day teams could expand their 25-man rosters.

In two previous appearances with Boston this season, Breslow pitched 3 1-3 scoreless innings. In 39 relief outings with Pawtucket, he is 7-1 with a 2.69 ERA and seven saves. He leads Pawtucket in appearances and ranks second in saves and didn’t allow an earned run in his last 11 games and 17 1-3 innings.

Murphy is in the majors for the first time since being drafted by the Red Sox with the 17th pick in 2003.

In 131 games this year at Double-A Portland and Pawtucket, he hit .269 with 11 homers and 69 RBI.
