WEST PARIS – A fire caused about $10,000 in damage to a two-story home here about 11 a.m. Monday. No one was injured.

The fire, which appeared to be caused by an electrical problem, started in the basement ceiling below the dining room of the 32 Church St. home, police Chief Norm St. Pierre said.

The fire burned through the floorboards. Less than a square foot was flame-damaged, St. Pierre said.

The owner of the home, Roy Benson, had stepped out to go to the store and came back to a house full of smoke, St. Pierre said.

The house had extensive smoke damage in the basement and minimum smoke damage to the first and second floors, St. Pierre said.

West Paris, Paris and Norway fire departments along with Tri-Town Rescue responded to the incident.
