AUBURN – The Masonic open house/pancake breakfast at the Masonic Hall, Turner Street, sponsored by Ashlar, Rabboni, Tranquil and Ancient Brothers lodges, has been canceled.

DAR meeting

BOWDOIN – Regent Sheila Desgrosseilliers announces that Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at the home of Marion Spear at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. Following the business meeting, Corley Anne Byras will present a program on Maine’s coastal defense trail.

OES reception

AUBURN – A reception will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St., for the Order of the Eastern Star appointive grand officers serving Susan A. Gaines, worthy grand matron, and Newell H. Farrington, worthy grand patron.

Those being honored are Dale E. Hanington, grand chaplain; Ellis Wayne Beals, grand marshal; Elizabeth A. Syvinski, grand organist; Deborah J. Larson, grand Adah; Elaine E. Wardwell, grand Ruth; Carol Hall Perry, grand Esther; Flora M. Stack, grand Martha; Nancy Jacobs, grand Electa; and John L. Cousins, grand warder.

A receiving line will be held at noon, with a reception to begin at 1 p.m. All Eastern Star members, Masons and friends are welcome. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall after the reception.

Lodge open house

MONMOUTH – The Masons are inviting the public to an open house at the Masonic Hall in Monmouth Center from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

The building (former Congregational Church) is the second on the left after the post office going south on Main Street.

Secretary David Walker said, “You’ve seen ‘National Treasure’ and ‘The DaVinci Code,’ now come and see what Masons really stand for and how Masons contribute to our communities through local lodges, Shrine hospitals and other worthy endeavors. Come and see our lodge building.”

The hall was redecorated in the mid 1930s by famous artist-muralist Harry Cochrane. Cochrane also designed Cumston Hall and the murals at Kora Shrine Temple in Lewiston plus many other churches in Maine and New England.

AARP speaker

LEWISTON – The Androscoggin Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at the Multi-Purpose Center Seniors Room.

Speaker will be Jud Dolphin, director, AARP Maine, who will discuss Tabor. The board of directors will meet at 12:30 p.m. Attendance and pot of gold drawings will be held after the program, followed by refreshments. Everyone is welcome.
