BOSTON (AP) – Reliever Mike Timlin agreed to a $2.8 million, one-year contract to play his fifth season with the Boston Red Sox.

The incentive-laden deal includes bonuses for games pitched and games finished. He’ll receive a $125,000 bonus when he pitches in his 39th game, and again when he reaches 50, 60 and 70 games pitched.

The 40-year-old Timlin finished with a 6-6 record, 4.36 ERA and nine saves in 68 games this season. He had eight blown saves. The right-hander spent part of May and June on the disabled list with a strained right shoulder.
