PERU – Selectmen accepted the resignation of board member Dennis Thibodeau on Monday night.

Thibodeau, who is leaving immediately for a five-month stay in Texas, said he thought the board should have five members. He also said in his letter of resignation that none of the things he had hoped to accomplish had been done.

Thibodeau said he had wanted to see the town go to a town manager form of government to cut office costs, lower taxes and get more involved in the school district. He also was not in favor of the Comprehensive Plan.

Selectman Norman DeRoche told Thibodeau, “You had a long agenda, but you now see how slow the wheel turns in making things happen.”

Road Commissioner David Gammon reported that water was still coming through a leak in the foundation of the sand and salt shed. Attempts to plug the crack after the contractor was notified had failed and water continues to collect on the floor after a rain.

Gammon said Brown Hill Road was to be paved this week, finishing up the paving work scheduled on a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Board Chairman Bill Hine read a letter from Richard Knox representing seven families on Holman Road requesting that the road be returned to tar. It is now graveled.

Gammon said they would have to revisit that request next year because it is too late to consider for this year.

Before the board meeting, selectmen met with Mike Rogers of Maine Revenue Services about the town’s valuation, which is $109.2 million for 2007, or 11.2 percent more than last year.
