AUBURN – The Child Health Center of Androscoggin County needs 10 adult mentors to spend time with girls in the Auburn and Poland middle schools.

Most successful people say they had mentors along the way who guided and encouraged them. Oprah Winfrey cites a fourth-grade teacher, who taught her to believe in herself. Others include Rosa Parks mentored by her headmistress; Helen Keller mentored by Anne Sullivan; Gloria Estefan by her grandmother.

The Child Health Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters of Androscoggin County needs volunteers at least 20 years old and up to spend a minimum of six hours a month with girls, who are in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades in Auburn and Poland. Those who would like to share interests with a young teen in the community program should contact Diane Blanchard at 782-5437 or 743-7035 for more information.
