LEWISTON – An informational workshop on the elementary and middle school education program at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College will be held Tuesday, Nov. 28.

The undergraduate program, called “CLASS,” prepares students for careers in the classroom as “teacher-leaders.”

CLASS enables students to complete a bachelor’s degree in an academic major of their choice in the arts and sciences and to become certified teachers in grades kindergarten through eight.

The innovative program provides all the education courses and experiences required for students to become qualified, state certified candidates for teaching positions in the 21st century.

The education courses, field experiences and seminars occur “on site” in local public schools. By the end of the program, students will also have completed at least 35 graduate credit hours toward USM’s Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning. All of the academic work for the program can be completed at the Lewiston-Auburn campus, and the two partner schools are located in Auburn.

The informal session on the CLASS program will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at USM/L-A, Westminster Street. It will be an opportunity to meet with college and partner school faculty, as well as with students in the program. Light refreshments will be served. The CLASS Program is designed specifically for undergraduate students. Anyone interested in teaching who already holds a bachelor’s degree may want to consider “ETEP,” a post-baccalaureate teacher education program offered through USM’s College of Education and Human Development.
