Free coats

LEWISTON – The Root Cellar will distribute free winter coats to Lewiston residents on Saturday, Nov. 18. The coats may be picked up at its 89 Birch St. facility from 2 to 4 p.m. No registration is required.

The Root Cellar is an interdenominational Christian ministry whose mission is to meet the physical and spiritual needs of inner-city youth and their families. The organization has been serving residents of Portland’s Munjoy Hill neighborhood since 1984. Its second location in downtown Lewiston is under renovation.

Support program

LEWISTON – Beacon Hospice’s “Harbor’s of Hope” Bereavement Program will present an eight-week bereavement support group hosted by Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 62 Strawberry Ave. The group will meet for eight weeks from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Fridays, Dec. 1 through Jan. 19.

The group can help participants recognize that while the feelings they are experiencing are uniquely theirs, they follow a similar path to that of many others. Because the holidays can be difficult, the group will share ways to cope and get through the season.

Church fair

LITCHFIELD – St. Leo’s Church, Lewiston Road, will hold a Christmas Craft fair form 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. More than 20 tables will hold homemade crafts, baked items, fudge, gift baskets and raffles. There will be coffee and muffins in the morning and hot dogs and beans, taco soup or a combo for lunch.

Auditions set

POLAND – The Poland Players have announced auditions for their next production, “Arsenic and Old Lace.” Auditions are open to all members of the community. Individuals will be asked to read from a portion of the play. Audition dates and times are Nov. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Nov. 30 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. or by appointment.

The auditions will be held in the theater at Poland Regional High School, 1453 Maine St. Show dates will be Feb. 1 to 3. Technical assistance is also required.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Nov. 14 were: first, Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell; second, Martine Begert and Fred Letourneau; third, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; fourth/fifth tie, Jeanine Kivus and Lorry Letourneau with Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; first in B, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements; second in B, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Nov. 15 were: first, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner; second, Paul Barber and Luke Merry; third, Helen Little and Anita Perrier; fourth, Mary Leahey and Claire Lyons; fifth, Roger Briggs and Larry Fortier.

The next game at the Multi-Purpose Center will be on Tuesday, Nov. 21, and a partner is guaranteed.

No game will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Eve. The next game will be Nov. 30. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 783-1734 for information about all duplicate bridge games.
