Yankee ingenuity prevailed as a portion of this town was transformed into a winter wonderland for filming commercials for the Hallmark Greeting Card Company. Mother Nature failed to cooperate with snow or cold temperatures so large sheets of plastic were spread on lawns surrounding the Nazarene Church on Church Street and a portion of Bethel Inn complex and then heaped with fire-fighting foam. Cotton batting was strategically placed on the buildings to add to the creation of the winter atmosphere. Cameras began rolling at 6 p.m. to capture scenes of families going to church and then to grandmother’s house for dinner. The house sequences were shot from the outside looking in through the windows.
