• Plans are now in progress for a division of the St. Peter’s parish and the section of a new and modern edifice in the lower part of the city to accommodate parishioners who reside west of the canal – the canal being the dividing line. The census taken about three weeks ago, shows that there are now 10,500 French-American in Lewiston, and it is thought that such a large number of people could be better served with two churches.

• Thanksgiving Plum Pudding – Mrs. V. G. Lane, High street: Three eggs, one quart milk, about one cup sugar, one cup seeded raisins, butter size of an egg and salt to taste. Break the crackers (7 or 8 perhaps) into pieces and soak in the milk, then mix the other ingredients and pour over. Bake and serve with the following:

Egg Sauce: Beat two eggs and one cup sugar vigorously for about twenty minutes. Add a cup of boiling milk just before serving and beat. Flavor with vanilla.

50 Years Ago, 1956

PARIS – France appeared certain today to follow Britain’s lead and institute gasoline rationing.

Premier Guy Mollet admitted in a statement that the appeal for voluntary curtailment by motorists and others had led to a veritable disorder.

Since the government trimmed retailers to 70 per cent of their normal supplies following the Suez crisis, lines of motorists have been lining up at gas stations.

25 Years Ago, 1981

Sugarloaf Mountain is open and, reported a spokeswoman for the ski resort, by Monday will have eight trails in operation serviced by six lifts.

“We have a 4-to 24-inch base for top to bottom skiing on expert, intermediate and novice trails. More trails and lifts will open as they are ready…if all goes well we hope to be completely open by Friday,” said the spokeswoman.
