LACONIA, N.H.(AP) – A 36-year-old woman faces a charge of kidnapping after police say she failed to return a one-year-old boy to his parents Saturday night.

Police said they got a call from the mother, Kristina Cleveland, Saturday night after the babysitter, Donna Powell, and the boy were several hours late returning from a planned shopping trip. The mother learned Powell had been trying to buy a car from a dealership in Tilton.

Police issued a child abduction alert. They were able to trace Powell via her new cell phone after Powell contacted her mother in Florida and the mother alerted police.

State police stopped Powell on Interstate 93 and took the child back home to his parents. Powell has been charged with kidnapping and was being held on $10,000 cash bail. She was due to appear in court Monday morning.
