HEBRON – Nancy Marshall, founder and president of the public relations firm, Nancy Marshall Communications, will speak to Hebron Academy students and faculty on Wednesday, Dec. 6, as part of the academy’s Entrepreneurship Program.

Marshall’s presentation will explore “Entrepreneurship: The Great Risks and the Great Rewards” during the school’s community meeting from 10:15 to 11 a.m. in the Lepage Lecture Hall, Treat Science Building. The public is welcome.

A graduate of Hebron, Marshall has owned and operated her agency for 15 years. After graduating from Hebron, Marshall earned her bachelor of arts degree from Colby College. She worked for Hebron, teaching French for one year, then moved on to positions at Maine Public Broadcasting, Sugarloaf/USA and Hinckley Yachts before launching her own business in 1991.

Her firm focuses on media relations, marketing communications and publicity campaigns for tourism, economic development and service industries. While working at Sugarloaf/USA, Marshall earned her master’s in business administration from Thomas College.

Her Augusta-based agency has 10 employees and has represented the state Office of Tourism since 1993 and the Office of Business Development since 1996, as well as many other clients.

“I am eager to share my story with the Hebron students. Growing a business from the ground up hasn’t always been easy, and it definitely is not for everyone. Entrepreneurship is not a career, it’s a lifestyle. You need to build a support network, particularly if you are trying to grow a business and a family at the same time. I’ve been blessed with a tremendous support network, but not everyone has that. I want to tell the students about some of the joys and disappointments that I’ve experienced, and hopefully they will see that being an entrepreneur is full of great risks as well as great rewards,” said Marshall.

The Hebron Academy Entrepreneurship Program focuses on entrepreneurial learning, teaching and practice. Students learn entrepreneurial skills while interacting with successful entrepreneurs, launching for-profit and nonprofit ventures and participating in business competitions.
