AUBURN – Central Maine Community College Corporate and Community Services will offer “Introduction to Phlebotomy” (CED 006-21) from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 18 through March 15. The cost of $275 includes books and materials.

A combination of lecture, lab and hands-on practical experience, the course is aimed at developing the skills needed to work in an entry level position in medical facilities as a phlebotomist.

Coursework will include selecting and preparing the skin puncture site, collecting specimens, adhering to the proper health and safety guidelines, patient/technician relationship and clerical duties associated with proper record keeping of laboratory tests.

Upon completion, students may qualify for employment in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices and other health care settings and may be eligible for national certification as phlebotomy technicians.

The course will be taught by Diane Daignault and Gina Chappell. Daignault and Chappell are phlebotomist at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston and each has more than 20 years of experience.
