NEW GLOUCESTER – Craig Denekas, vice president of the Libra Foundation, updated selectmen this week on Pineland Farms and the Pineland campus.
The business park, which opened in 2001, is at nearly 80 percent occupancy with 38 tenants.
“We see lots of small professional service organizations, including law firms, locating here,” Denekas said.
He also reported:
• A pond cleanup project to improve the fishing habitat and seasonal skating is completed.
• Parking has been reconfigured at Route 231 to improve safety.
• The creamery at Valley Farm is making cheese three days a week.
• Pineland Farms natural meats are marketed to Washington, New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The beef is hormone-free, with no antibiotics, and the animals have an all vegetarian diet.
• Guest homes on the Pineland campus in New Gloucester and Gray are available for public stays.
• A dog prohibition policy has gone into effect. The leash policy for public users has not been adhered to and has caused problems. Recently one dog at a closed property got caught in a coyote trap. Another dog bit a person.
• There are continued issues of coyotes at the farm. Guard dogs and llamas failed to work. Three licensed trappers were hired and set traps at Collier Brook Farm area.
