Quit and Win is a five-week tobacco cessation program

LEWISTON – Healthy Androscoggin’s Quit and Win Program reached record-breaking sponsorship levels this year with a total of seven sponsors. Healthy Androscoggin’s eighth annual Quit and Win program is open for registration for community members who want to quit using tobacco.

Quit and Win is a five-week tobacco cessation program that encourages and motivates individuals to quit by providing information, quit tips and social support as each person signs up for the program with a buddy to assist them in the quit process.

Participants must register by Jan. 8 by calling 795-5990 or by signing up on the Web site at www.healthyandroscoggin.org. Program participants must quit on or before Jan. 15 and stay quit through Feb. 19 in order to be eligible for prizes including up to $500.

Quit and Win boasts average quit rates of 30 percent and in some years as high as 44 percent of participants have quit using tobacco. Quit and Win offers individuals the chance to break their nicotine addiction and qualify for a prize drawing of up to $500 cash.

The program is made possible by the support of many local businesses. “This year we are very fortunate to have the support of several organizations in sponsoring the Quit and Win program,” said Angela Westhoff, Healthy Androscoggin executive director. Central Maine Medical Center has donated $4,000 to this year’s program and holds the sole gold level sponsorship designation.

“We are extremely grateful to CMMC for sponsoring this important program. Without their support and the support of so many others, we would not be able to help over 150 community members who annually attempt to quit through our program,” Westhoff said.

St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center sponsored at the silver level and five organizations sponsored at the bronze level. For more information, call Healthy Androscoggin at 795-5990.
