LEWISTON – A man and two women were arrested early Friday and charged with slashing a woman and her daughter the night before.

One by one, police picked up suspects accused of breaking into a Bartlett Street apartment early Thursday morning and slicing a 36-year-old woman in the hand and her 16-year-old daughter in the face.

Arrested were Jacqueline Candice Brewer, 26, of 58 Howard St., Amanda Benoit, 18, of 236 Main St., Auburn, and Bruce Christopher Russo, 21, of 26 Nichols St.

Each of them was charged with burglary and aggravated assault. Each remained at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on Friday night.

Police said the three burst into an apartment at 143 Bartlett St. about 2 a.m. Thursday. There, they confronted the woman and teenage girl in what was described as a dispute about money or property, police said.

During the confrontation, the 36-year-old was cut in the hand with a piece of glass or a similar object, police said. Her daughter was slashed in the face.

The weapon has not been recovered.

The teenage girl was treated for the gash and her mother required surgery to repair damage to her hand, police said.

Police investigating the assaults were led to Brewer, Benoit and Russo. By Thursday afternoon, they were searching for them in several neighborhoods in Lewiston and Auburn.

Once the suspects were found, they were taken to the Police Department before they were arrested and booked at the county jail.

The three are expected to appear in court next week.
