Dear Sun Spots: When my primary physician received his flu shot supply for this season, he forgot to reserve one for me. Now he’s all out and doesn’t know when or if he’ll be getting any more for this season. I am a disabled person. I have Medicare and Medicaid and numerous health problems. Are there any clinics or private doctors in the Lewiston/Auburn area that still have flu shots available for the needy? Thank you for your help. I would like to get one as soon as possible. – No Name, No Town.

Answer:
Sun Spots has been able to locate a few. Among your possibilities are:

The Ellsworth Free Medical Clinic has shots scheduled for Dec. 29 and 30. Call 667-7953 for clinic times and directions. A $10 administration fee will be charged. Vaccine is provided by the Maine Immunization Program, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Maine Center for Disease Control. The clinic is unable to bill MaineCare, Medicare or other insurances.

St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center has no more clinics scheduled but suggests you call your primary physician for referral to another physician’s office for the shot, or to send you to the hospital for a shot from the hospital’s supply.

Central Maine Medical Center’s Family Practice office, 795-5750, has flu shots available only to their patients. If you are not a Family Practice patient, your primary physician may be able to negotiate with Family Practice for the shot.

Call the Southern Maine Medical Center Visiting Nurses Flu hotline at 283-6868 for information on flu shots at their 72 Main St., Kennebunk office every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For clinics in Portland, you might contact 874-8446 to see if any are scheduled.

Dear Sun Spots: Please keep up the good work.

To remove yourself from a mailing list, I wrote to Mail Preference Service in Farmington, New York. My letter was returned, noting they were unable to forward it. Please see the address included with this inquiry. Is this address incorrect? – Alice Robinson, Livermore.

Answer:
It appears the address is not a current address, and both you and another reader encountered the same problem. Sun Spots checked around some more, and those wishing to have their names and information removed from any junk mail lists should send their name, address and be sure to sign and date their letter. Mail to: Mail Preference Service, c/o Direct Marketing Association, P.O. Box 9008, Farmindale, NY 11735-9008. They can also be reached, via phone, at 212-768-7277. Don’t forget to provide three spellings or variations of your name, as well as any other names at your address, including previous occupants, to ensure removal. Your information will be retained for five years. Be sure to also write when you move.

Dear Sun Spots: Several weeks ago I wrote into Sun Spots on behalf of the Androscoggin Hospice House requesting games, puzzles and more for a program we were trying to get established to supply activities for patients and their families/visitors. I am now writing again to say thank-you to all the wonderful and generous people who responded. We received a great supply of puzzles and games and some very generous monetary donations, which we were able to use to buy some of the missing items with. We would love to be able to name all the donors here but many of the donations were anonymous (and it would make for a very long Sun Spots letter). We were thrilled with the tremendous response and so very proud of our community. Thank you everyone and happy New Year. – Mary Wade, No Town.
