BANGOR – The State Fire Marshal’s Office reported that a 56-year-old Bangor woman died Friday night when fire swept her bedroom apartment, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said.

The body of Althea Marshman was found in her bed after Bangor firefighters were called to the apartment house at 8 Cottage St. just prior to 7 p.m., he said.

Another tenant in the three unit apartment house discovered the fire after smelling smoke coming from inside Marshman’s first floor apartment. That neighbor roused two men, who were inside Marshman’s apartment, and they escaped without injury, McCausland announced.

No one else was injured. Fire damage was confined to the bedroom

Two fire marshal investigators joined Bangor fire and police investigators looking into the cause of the fire, McCausland said.
