AUGUSTA – The 2007 Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program will begin on Friday, Jan. 5. Proceeds will allow Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council to continue offering programs to more than 10,000 girls in 10 counties of southern, central and western Maine.

Cookie flavors include Caramel deLites, shortbread, peanut butter patties, Cartwheels, Thanks-A-Lot, peanut butter sandwich, Lemonades and Thin Mints. All varieties are now “zero trans fat per serving,” in compliance with FDA regulations.

Rose society

AUGUSTA – Mid-Maine Rose Society will hold a special meeting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, to obtain input from members on how to invigorate the society, make meetings more interesting and get everyone excited about growing roses. The meeting will be held at the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant just beyond the Civic Center. The lunch will be followed by a meeting at 1 p.m.

Council meeting

AUGUSTA – The Maine Statewide Independent Living Council, a federally mandated cross disability organization, will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, for regular business plus a legislative training at the Career Center, 2 Anthony Ave.

Winter walk

AUGUSTA – A winter nature walk/snowshoe will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at the Pine Tree State Arboretum, a53 Hospital St.

Participants will learn basic track shapes, sizes and patterns and look for tracks and signs of the animals that stay active during the winter. Bring snowshoes or rent a pair from the arboretum.

Preregistration required. It is $5 for members; $10 for non-members. Call 621-0031 for more information or to register.
