NEWRY – Melvina R. Cummings, 63, of Newry died unexpectedly at her residence Jan. 4.

She was born in Rumford Point on July 10, 1943, the daughter of George and Louise (Stowe) Learned, attended Newry schools and graduated from Gould Academy. She married Larry S. Cummings on May 22, 1965. He died in 1991.

She is survived by her companion, Donald Twitchell of Newry; two brothers, George Learned of New Britain, Conn., and Leroy Learned of Newry; three daughters, Amy Cummings of Strong, Emily Cummings Barbeau of Groton, Conn., and Sarah Nigra Heady of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, Everett Spaulding of Plymouth; eight grandbabies, Morgan and Andrew Cummings, Hayley and Phillip Barbeau, Dominick Nigra, Jarrod and Colby Heady and Christopher Spaulding.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Thody and Barbara Olsen. To fill her days she enjoyed spending time with her family and pets.
