PARIS – Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School student Chris Dowling and 14 other members of the Spanish class are raising money for a trip to Costa Rica this spring.

Twenty-five students, two teachers and two chaperones will travel to Cartago, Costa Rica, where they will volunteer to work in the schools, nursing homes, orphanages and other organizations where there may be a need.

The trip is planned for April 7 to 14, and each student must raise $2,000 to cover the cost of the trip, meals and housing.

To help meet that goal for Dowling, the First Universalist Church of South Paris, Pine Street, will host a potluck supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6. The price is $6 for adults; $3 for children 12 and over; under 12, free.

Dowling is the son of Jane and Rich Hatch of Hebron. “I’m really looking forward to this trip,” said Dowling. “I want to learn a lot more about Spanish cultures and how they live their normal lives. It will also feel great to volunteer and do something of value while in Costa Rica, plus it will expand my Spanish-speaking skills.”
