Auburn Youth Hockey

In Tier 3 Mite competition Sunday at Ingersoll Arena, Liam Benson scored five goals as Flames blazed to a 7-2 victory over Lightning. The Flames made their statement with five first-period goals, including four by Liam Benson. All of Benson’s goals in the opening stanza came in a four-minute span, and three were unassisted.

Tyler Lasascio set up Benson’s first tally. Keeley Arnold also scored courtesy of Savannah Shaw. Alex Landry had the lone Lightning goal in the first period. Landry fed Gavin Bates to trim the gap to 5-2 in the second.

Benson struck again with help from Madison Simard and Clifford Greco, and Arnold closed out the scoring with Shaw and Simard assisting. Devin Dumont tended the net for the Flames, while Trent Spaulding was the Lightning’s netminder.

Maranacook Area Youth Hockey

Josh Moore and Cameron Sullivan each scored two goals to lead Gardiner past Maranacook, 8-2, in Maranacook Area Youth Hockey Pee Wee action at Alfond Arena in Kents Hill. Bryant Whitney, Matt Plourde, Brandon Benson and Alex Nadeau also connected for Gardiner. Sullivan and Benson each dished out two assists, with Dalton Sargent, Blake Cody, Cody Hickey and Seth Wing notching one helper apiece.

Ian Palmer and Tony McIvor produced the Maranacook goals. Sam Bryant delivered an assist. River Mullen was the Maranacook goalie, with Matt Swan serving as his counterpart for Gardiner. Maranacook is now 8-6-2 on the season, including a 6-0 loss Saturday to the Western Maine peewees at Bridgton Academy.
