LEWISTON – Organizations interested in hosting a dining site are being sought by SeniorsPlus, local area agency on aging for Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties.

The agency has been serving hot, nutritious meals to seniors and adults with disabilities for more than 25 years.

The congregate dining program gives those adults the opportunity to have a hot meal, socialize with others and partake in community activities. The meals are low in fat, salt and sugar.

The program takes place a various locations including community centers, clubs, apartment complexes, churches, senior centers and schools.

Organizations that host a site provide the sponsorship, which includes volunteers to serve, clean up and collect donations and process paperwork. A location with a kitchen and eating area are required.

SeniorsPlus provides the food, supplies, support, training and everything else needed, including scheduled speakers and educational events. For a $3 donation, diners receive a main course, potato, vegetable, bread, dessert, coffee, tea or milk. The hosting organization may choose the times and dates that meals are served: every day, weekly or once a month.

SeniorsPlus offers Meals on Wheels, Partners in Caring and information and referral services. It is always looking for volunteers to help with various programs such as transportation, Meals on Wheels, kitchen and dining room assistance and projects.
