LEWISTON – Murielle Guay, licensed clinical social worker, announces the opening of her private counseling practice at 1008 Lisbon St.

Guay is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine with a bachelor’s degree in social and behavioral sciences. She received a master’s degree in social work at Boston College.

Previously, Guay was employed at Beacon Hospice, Tri-County and Catholic Charities of Maine therapeutic foster care. She has worked with patients and families on death/dying, Alzheimer’s/dementia, pre- or post-bereavement issues, and and counseled individuals, families and children regarding developmental/mental health issues. At Tri-County she was part of the Child Act Team, which focused on working with families that were in jeopardy of losing their children to foster care. At Catholic Charities, she worked with the therapeutic foster care program.

Guay was instrumental in organizing and facilitating grief support groups for a variety of individuals, has completed training at the Center for Grieving Children/Families in Portland, and is certified by the American Bereavement Association as a bereavement facilitator. She has completed Alzheimer/dementia training with Beacon Hospice and is certified as a mental health rehabilitation counselor.

She developed and coordinated the “Wrap a Child with Love” project that organized volunteer knitters who completed afghans for children who were entering the therapeutic foster care program.
