Larry Smith and his mother, Phyllis M. Smith of Bethel, were recently honored by the Maine National Guard’s 240th Engineer Group. They were presented an American flag that was flown at the South Engineer Camp, Bagram Airfield (Operation Enduring Freedom 2006-7), in Afghanistan on June 14, 2006. Capt. Crockett had contacted Smith and his mother and notified them that he was having a hard time finding a POW-MIA flag to be flown beside their colors. The Smiths obtained a flag and sent it to Afghanistan.
