Seniors to meet

AUBURN – Robin Dow Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, 426 Washington St. Installation of officers will be held and there will be the usual raffle table. Bingo will be played after a bag lunch.

When the group met Jan. 10, under the direction of President Merry Strout, there were 49 members present. New officers were elected as follows: president, Strout; vice president, Virginia Houston; treasurer, Irving Grant; recording secretary, Caroline Chapman; correspondence secretary, Aileen Harnden; chaplain, Patricia Donohue; board of directors, Joan Webb, Ralph Lashua, Lucien Marcoux, Kathleen Koss and Irving Grant.

January birthdays were noted. Attendance prize winners were Martha Goodwin and Wallace Dixon; pot of gold, Alwin Strout, Philip Cyr and Caroline Chapman.

Build critters

GREENE – Androscoggin Grange 8 is once again sponsoring a “Snow Critter Challenge” for Greene residents.

Residents are invited to make a snow sculpture. It can be big, little, an animal, person, replica of a building, as long as it is made out of snow. The grange is hosting the contest to challenge folks to get outside and have a good time with family and friends.

When a snow critter is complete, call Cindy Morn at 946-3434 and she will take a video and photo. The contest, open to all Greene residents, will end April 1. Prizes will include cash, pizza and movie certificates.

Welcome pastor

AUBURN – Members of the Auburn Advent Christian Church, 263 Turner St., welcomed their new minister at the morning service on Jan. 14. The service, including communion, was led by pastor Bruce Harris, who has arrived from a recent pastorship in Georgia. He and his wife, Janice, are living in the church parsonage at 9 Vernon St.

Harris outlined his thoughts and ideas for programs that could move the ministry of the church forward and lead to more involvement in the life of the surrounding community. He also challenged members to seek the best way that they may minister through the church body.
