POLAND – The Gray-New Gloucester Patriot Football Club will hold its fourth annual ice fishing derby on Saturday, Feb. 10, on Middle and Upper Range Ponds.

Fishing will begin a half hour before sunrise and end at 3:30 p.m. The weigh-in station will be located at the Flying Lobster Restaurant, Route 26, at the end of Middle Range Pond.

In the adult division, first prize will be $350; second, $250; and third, $100. In the youth division, first prize will be a $50 gift certificate; second, $25 gift certificate; and third, $15 gift certificate. Trophies will also be awarded. There will be door prizes drawn throughout the day.

The derby is also a Hooked On Fishing – Not on Drugs Learn to Fish event, providing an opportunity for area youth to participate and learn about ice fishing.

Hooked On Fishing – Not on Drugs is a nationwide youth educational tool that promotes youth and family togetherness through fishing.

A portion of the proceeds from the derby will benefit the Maine Hooked On Fishing – Not On Drugs program, which is operated by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The Learn to Fish program will begin at 8:30 a.m. Traps and bait will be available free for any participating youth.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $3 for youth 12 and under, with a family maximum of $18. Tickets are available at Dag’s Bait Shop in Auburn, Mooney’s Bait Shop in New Gloucester, Allen’s Country Store in Cumberland, Stone’s Pet Supply in Lewiston and Poland Store and Grill in Poland. On the day of the derby, tickets will be available at the weigh-in station at the Flying Lobster and at the boat ramp on Upper Range Pond.
