PARIS – South Paris Cub Scout Pack 130 and parents attended a Kids In Control Keep Safe (KICKS) Streetwise seminar on Jan. 29, presented by Donna Bouchard, owner of Bouchard’s Karate Academy and founder of the KICKS program.

The Scouts learned lessons in personal safety in a “nonscary,” informative format.

The Scouts were able to participate in the hands-on training and parents learned the value of role-play in keeping kids, alert and safe.

“All too often, parents unknowingly send mixed messages to their children, by showing parents how to present and reinforce safety messages in a straight forward, nonconfusing manner.

The KICKS program increases the retention rate of these valuable lessons,” said Bouchard.

“The bad guys won’t go away, but if we educate our kids, we will make it harder and harder for them to commit these crimes against children,” she said.

After the seminar, the Bouchard’s Karate Academy demonstration team entertained the Cub Scouts and parents.

Additional KICKS seminars include child safety, advanced child safety, anti-bully recipes and choices and consequences. All seminars are presented free to any Oxford Hills school or organization as a community service.
