LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will be closed for internal training on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

To allow for the attendance of all the staff, the shelter will be closed to visitors and potential adopters Wednesday, but will still accepts stray and owner-surrendered animals from the community. It will re-open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, and return to normal operating hours.

The society provides a haven for more than 4,000 sick, homeless and abused animals in the Androscoggin area every year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations of residents.

The society is located at 55 Strawberry Ave. Those interested in learning more about what kind of donations the shelter needs, volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal should call 783-2311 or visit www.gahumane.org.
