CARRBASSETT VALLEY – Ben Morse, a freshman at Carrabassett Valley Academy, will be boarding a plane this week bound for the “Trofeo Topolino” (Topolino Trophy) in Italy. It’s an international ski race for the top junior skiers from all five continents. Morse will be representing the United States in slalom, giant slalom and “Combi” races.

Last year’s results at Junior Olympics earned Mose an invitation to skiing’s prestigious junior event. He and the top male and female 14-15-year-old skiers from each of the Eastern, Rocky Mountain and Western Divisions of the United States Ski Association will represent our country.

The “Trofeo Topolino” is a mini-Olympics. First staged in 1958 by the dynamic Rolly Marchi, it celebrates its 46th edition on the slopes of Levico Terme, Panarotta in the Lagorai mountain range set amongst amazing views of the Dolomiti di Brenta and the South Tyroll Alps.

“I’m super excited to represent the U.S. at these world renowned races,” says Morse, who resides in Carrabassett Valley. “Racing with the other top 14-15-year olds will be a thrill. I’m also looking forward to simply enjoying the European ski culture.”

CVA Coach Chip Cochrane will be traveling with Morse. “I don’t like to make predictions, but Ben is capable of a podium finish in any of the races at Topolino,” praises the coach. “I am eager to watch Ben step up and compete at this level.”
