DIXFIELD – Auburn-Lewiston YMCA and Turner won championships Saturday during playoff competition in the Central Maine Youth Basketball League (Boys Grades 3-4) at Dixfield Middle School.
YMCA captured the title in Bracket 2 involving the top 4 teams. Turner earned the crown in Bracket 1 involving the other 4 clubs.
YMCA edged Maranacook 37-33 in its first game. Llewelyn Jensen led with 10 points. Quin Brown added 8. Cam Brochu poured in 19 for Maranacook. Kent Mohlar added 8.
In Game 2, Dixfield eliminated Hall-Dale 30-17 as Tyler Frost, Rily Robinson and Gavin Arsenault all netted 6 points. Nat Crocker (7) and Brian Allen (6) led H-D.
In the championship game, YMCA nipped Dixfield 36-34, despite blowing an 11-point lead entering the fourth quarter. Kaleb Tremaine hit a shot with 30 seconds left to provide YMCA with a 2-point lead. The Dixies had 2 shots in the final seconds but couldn’t connect on the equalizer. Jensen (13) and Brown (12) again led the champs. Luke Sterling contributed 4. Frost led Dixfield with 15. Robinson added 9 and Nick St. Germain 8.
In the Bracket 2 consolation tilt, Maranacook edged Hall-Dale 48-44 in overtime. Brochu, who sent the game into overtime with a hoop as time expired, led with 17. Kodey Solmitz added 12. Allen (16) and Crocker (12) paced H-D.
In Bracket 1, Gardiner ousted Wilton (taking Monmouth’s place in the tourney) 41-19 as Brad Weston collected 13. Ethan Backus scored 6 for Wilton.
Turner beat Winthrop 28-17 as Robbie Deschenes scored 10 and Mitchel Davis 8. Bryson Camp paced Winthrop with 8. Nick Schlosser added 4.
In the consolation game, Winthrop toppled Wilton 39-14 as Camp and Matt Sekerak both tallied 8. Backus (10) and Matt Carlson (4) led Wilton.
Turner claimed the championship with a 43-41 win over Gardiner. Kaleb Main paced the champs with 10. Davis added 9. Weston scored 15 for Gardiner. Josh McKelvey added 10.
The league would like to thank Don St. Germain for his work during the tourney. Marcy Robinson was the 50-50 winner.
