AUBURN – Sucheta Desai, 17, of Auburn, a senior at Edward Little High School, has been selected to receive the 2007 Principal’s Award, The award, sponsored by the Maine Principal’s Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Desai is the daughter of Vinay and Rajeshsi Desai of Auburn.

She is an outstanding scholar who has garnered academic excellence awards since her freshmen year. She received the National Merit Scholars letter of commendation and top awards from the University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Science Award and the Certificate of Achievement from the Society of Women Engineers for math and science.

Desai also excels in Spanish, winning top honors for two out of three years. Her dedication to her school is seen through her commitment to the Kick-off Mentor Program where she mentored freshmen, as well as her continued presence on the civil rights team.

She also gives to her community with volunteering at the Trinity Soup Kitchen and the Auburn Public Library.

Desai and Principal Leslie Morrill will join other award winners and their principals at an honors luncheon on Saturday, April 7, at the Bangor Civic Center.
