NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Area Association of Churches held its annual meeting on Feb. 21 at the Norway Unitarian Universalist Church. Eighteen delegates representing 13 area churches were in attendance.

All area churches are invited to participate by sending one clergy and/or two church members to quarterly meetings held in February, May, September and November. The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Norway Unitarian Universalist Church.

Officers elected for 2007 are: Barbara Roth, president; Rosalie Ketchum, vice president; Joy Carr, secretary; Lee Millett, treasurer; Lisa Jones, the Rev. Anne Stanley and the Rev. Bill Wildman, Executive Committee.

Peg Gagnon, Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, spoke about the services her organization provides. They include a free 24/7 help line, which can be reached at 1-800-660-2871, a list of support groups and resources in Oxford County and free care consultation.

Gagnon said individuals often turn to their church first when they need help, and she wanted to be sure that the Oxford Hills churches are aware of her organization.

The group runs the free community lunch program every Wednesday at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Norway. In 2006 a total of 7,926 meals were served.

Community lunch program coordinator and treasurer Lee Millett reported that the Good Shepherd Food-Bank in Auburn has offered a $500 matching grant to the association. When the group raises the $500 and deposits it with Good Shepherd, they will be able to purchase $1,000 in food at the bank.

Anyone wishing to donate to the matching grant may do so by Monday, April 30. Checks should be made payable to Oxford Hills Area Association of Churches and sent to Lee Millett, 139 Crockett Ridge Road, Norway ME 04268.

Anyone wanting more information regarding the association may contact Barbara Roth at 743-0358.
