I am writing in response to Thomas Shields’ letter of March 14.

Sadly, his letter indicting Democrats was ill-founded. If Adolf Hitler were massing troops in Edmundston, Mainers – right and left – would gather in Madawaska to push him back. This is not that kind of war.

Finally, and about time, Democrats and possibly a couple of prominent Republicans, are asking: How the heck do we win this war anyways? One thing is certain, we don’t win through violence. Every shot fired recruits another volunteer to the camp of the enemy. We need smart heads, not smart bombs.

The latter can never take the place of the former.
