AUSTIN, Texas – There’s more to the Oklahoma Sooners than Courtney Paris.

Just enough, it turns out, for the third-seeded Sooners to hold off No. 14 Southeast Missouri State 74-60 on Saturday in the first round.

Freshman Jenna Plumley, all 5-foot-4 inches of her, had 20 points behind six 3-pointers and Leah Rush scored 19 to lead Oklahoma (27-4).

Sonya Daugherty led Southeast Missouri State (24-8) with 25 points in the Dayton Regional’s opening game. The Redhawks trailed 64-58 with four minutes to play before Plumley hit her fifth 3-pointer, then buried another 60 seconds later to make it 70-60. Plumley also had seven assists.

Paris, one of the most dominating players in the country, struggled the entire game but still got her 59th consecutive double-double with a burst in the final five minutes to finish with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Marquette 87, Louisiana-Lafayette 58

AUSTIN, Texas – With a fast start in front of almost empty arena, Marquette was off and running past the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns.

Krystal Ellis and Christina Quaye each scored 17 points and sixth-seeded Marquette routed No. 11-seed Louisiana-Lafayette.

Middle Tennessee 85, Gonzaga 46

STANFORD, Calif. – Middle Tennessee flashed, trapped and ran like crazy. Gonzaga never had a chance in its NCAA tournament debut.

Chrissy Givens moved up yet another spot on the school’s scoring list with 24 points, and the fifth-seeded Blue Raiders easily kept the nation’s-longest winning streak alive at 27 games.

Georgia 53, Belmont 36

MINNEAPOLIS – Georgia had too much experience, too much pedigree and too much defense for Belmont.

The two teams combined to miss 82 shots and turn the ball over 35 times.

Iowa State 79, Washington 60

MINNEAPOLIS – Nicky Wieben scored 11 of her 18 points in the second half and Toccara Ross added 12 points to lead sixth-seeded Iowa State into the second round.

Iowa State (26-8) overcame a shoddy start by shutting down Huskies star Cameo Hicks early. Hicks finished with 19 points for Washington (18-13), but missed seven of her first nine shots.

Texas A&M 58, Texas Arlington 50

LOS ANGELES – Texas A&M avoided another first-round upset to an intrastate opponent.

Danielle Gant scored 20 of her 24 points in the second half and grabbed 14 rebounds to help the fourth-seeded Aggies beat 13th seed Texas Arlington in a first-round game.

George Washington 76, Boise State 67

LOS ANGELES – Jessica Adair dominated the inside from the opening tip, and the fifth-seeded Colonials scored the first 19 points to beat 12th-seeded Boise State.

Adair, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, had 15 points and a career-high 21 rebounds for the Colonials (27-3).

Stanford 96, Idaho St 58

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford protected its home floor – and the Cardinal didn’t even need a huge day from star Candice Wiggins.

Brooke Smith made her first 10 shots on the way to a season-high 29 points, Cissy Pierce hit two early 3-pointers, and the Cardinal (29-4) breezed into the second round.

Florida State 85, Old Dominion 75

STANFORD, Calif. – Florida State took care of one tradition-rich program and will have an even bigger task ahead in the next round.

Britany Miller scored 20 points and the Seminoles (23-9) shot 58 percent to beat Old Dominion in a physical first-round game.

West Virginia 65, Xavier 52

AUSTIN, Texas – Olayinka Sanni scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half to lead West Virginia over Xavier.

Amber Harris had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Xavier (26-8).

Louisville 80, BYU 54

LOS ANGELES – Louisville’s tournament troubles appear over, at least for now.

After two straight first-round exits, the sixth-seeded Cardinals beat No. 11 seed BYU.

Angel McCoughtry had 24 points and nine rebounds for Louisville (27-7). It was the Cardinals’ first tournament victory since 1998. Now they’ll look to win a second-round game for the first time in 11 trips to the tournament.
