Henderson Memorial Baptist
FARMINGTON – Holy Week services are announced at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church.
Palms and hosannas will open the worship service Church on Palm Sunday, April 1. The communion service will feature a series of dramatic readings, “Into Your Hands I Commend My Spirit,” about people who played a part in the events that led to Jesus’ death on the cross.
On Maundy Thursday, April 5, at 7 p.m. a meditation on John 13:34-35 will be followed by Tenebrae readings from the gospel of Luke. A candle will be extinguished after each reading, until the sanctuary is in darkness and the service ends in silence.
The Community Good Friday Service will be held at noon Friday, April 6, at Old South Congregational Church, UCC. All Farmington clergy will participate in the ecumenical service remembering Jesus through The Stations of the Cross.
The service comes from the Iona Community in Scotland and provides for a time of meditative prayer as the congregation considers each station of Jesus’ journey to the cross. Images of each station are being provided by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. The Good Friday service is a ministry of the Farmington Area Ecumenical Ministry.
The Community Easter Sunrise Service, sponsored by the Farmington Area Ecumenical Ministry, will be held at 6:09 a.m. April 8 on Voter Hill.
To get to the Sunrise Service, take Rte. 43 from the West Farmington post office to Morrison Hill Rd. on your left. Cross the cement bridge and continue about one-half mile to Voter Hill Rd. on your right. Pass the former WKTJ radio station and turn left straight up Voter Hill about a mile, to the intersection of Mohawk Dr. and Voter Hill Rd. What a glorious way to welcome the resurrection!
Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will hold an Easter Breakfast at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 8, prior to worship. French toast and sausage, scrambled eggs and baked beans, fruit salad and hot cross buns will be served. All are welcome.
The 10:30 worship service at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will be a celebration of the Resurrection. The Bell Choir will play “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today” and the Sunday School Singers will lead the praise songs. Pastor Susan Crane will preach on Luke 24:1-12, “dle Tale or Amazing Truth?”
