OES to meet
MECHANIC FALLS – Dwinal Chapter 28, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Masonic Hall, 474 South Main St. The chapter will honor 25- and 50-year members and will celebrate Easter. It will be the first meeting with the newly installed corps of officers. The meeting will be preceded by a 6:30 p.m. supper. All members of the order are invited.
Auction reset
TURNER – The Leavitt Area High School Project Graduation auction has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 7, because of a late winter snowstorm
Doors will open at 8 a.m. for previewing the auction items in the Leavitt Area High School cafeteria. Area businesses and individuals donated the articles.
The bidding will kick off at 9 a.m. and will wrap up around 3 p.m. once all the items have been sold. A concession stand will be open all day to provide breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit the 30th Leavitt Area High School Project Graduation Celebration. The Class of 2007 will have a chem-free night of fun at the University of Maine at Farmington on graduation night.
Sunday speaker
TURNER – American Legion Chaplain Paul R. Bernard will be the guest speaker at the 10:30 a.m. Easter family worship service on Sunday, April 8, at the Turner Village Church, Main Street.
In memory of the 90th anniversary of the U.S. entry to World War I on April 6, 1917, the chaplain’s message will be “Was Jesus a Veteran?”
A sunrise service will also be held at 6 a.m. when Pastor Richard E. Wrentzel will speak on “A Living Message from the Cemetery.”
Greeters will be Helen Millett and Lee Moody. Special music will be provided by the children at the 10:30 service along with Margaret Sjostrom and the choir. All are welcome.
Society speaker
LISBON FALLS – The guest speaker at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Lisbon Historical Society meeting will be Richard Thompson of Durham, formerly of Lisbon Falls.
His presentation will cover the country of Eastern Slovakia and a video, photos and mementos of the area will be shown. Thompson has visited the area a number of times and after meeting relatives living there, he resided with them during last year’s visit. For a weekend he was able to hear first-hand stories of his families’ past and those stories will be shared with members and guests.
The meeting will be held at the MTM Center, 18 school St., Rooms 5 and 6; rear entry. The public is welcome to the free program.
MS support

Food for Thought
LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program series at USM/Lewiston-Auburn at noon Friday, April 13, will feature a presentation by Doris Laslie, a flight nurse with LifeFlight of Maine.
LifeFlight is the helicopter service located at the Central Maine Medical Center for transportation of patients to treatment centers.
Laslie has more than 21 years of combined experience in nursing, and has been working as an RN and EMT for the last 16 years.
The program will be held in Function Room 170 at USM/L-A. The cost, which includes lunch, is $6 with advance reservation or $8 at the door, opening at 11:30 a.m. Reservations should be made by Thursday, April 12, by phone at 753-6510 or online at usm.maine.edu/lac.
Artist to visit
AUBURN – Mike Jordan, creator of the online comic, “The Parverian Tales,” will return to the Auburn Public Library for his fifth teenior (for teens and up) artist workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14.
Teens can meet the man critics are hailing as “that tall guy who draws stuff” and get the answers to comic book questions. Those who would like can bring their art.

Round table
BRUNSWICK – Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Round Table will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Brunswick Junior High School cafeteria on Colombia Avenue.
Les Rolston, of Warwick, R.I., will speak on the “Lost Confederate Buried in Rhode Island.”
OES meeting
WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, OES, elected officers on March 13. Elizabeth Leighton, PM, was elected worthy matron, and her husband, Stanton Leighton, PP, was elected worthy patron.
Lakeside’s next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 10, at the Wales Grange/Masonic Hall, Centre Road. Members will honor District Deputy Grand Matron Ellen Broas of Pine Cone Chapter 26, Auburn, and present and past district deputy grand matrons.
Refreshments will be served in the dining hall after the meeting.
Breastfeeding
AUBURN – Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to the La Leche League meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome. Discussion will focus on ” Breastfeeding: The Mother-Baby Relationship and the Weaning Process.”
All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion. For breastfeeding help or directions to the meeting, call the La Leche League leader at 782-6645.
Trike-A-Thon
LEWISTON – Pick-A-Time Daycare, in co-operation with the Toy Library and New Life Community Center, will have a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Trike-A-Thon. Sponsor sheets are available to collect for a per-lap donation or a flat fee donation.
Each day Monday through Friday, April 9 to 13, children will be read the “Bikewell Bear Story,” which introduces riding toy safety. Children will receive a coloring sheet that reinforces the day’s safety lesson.
Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, children will go, with their riding toy and helmet, to the New Life Community Center, 134 College St., where a riding course will be clearly outlined in the gym.
