Grange change

POLAND – Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Agricultural Night program at Excelsior Grange on Saturday, April 7, will be at 8:30 p.m., rather than the planned 7:30.

Brother Arnold from the Shaker Society in New Gloucester will tell of the herb growing project and some history of Shaker agriculture illustrated with slide pictures.

The grange business meeting will begin at 7:30 and all members are welcome to attend.

Club speaker

AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston Art and Literature Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, April 9, at the Woman’s Literary Union.

Ellen Gilliam, reference librarian at the Lewiston Public Library, will discuss two tools that are used for learning about new books, BookLetters and NovelList, and the library’s reference services.

Hostesses will be Betty Gacetta, Anne Kalwell, Priscilla Hayes and Joan Dechene.

Lodge work

LISBON FALLS – Ancient York Lodge 155, AF and AM, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 9, at the lodge, Route 196. Work will be in the Fellowcraft degree. All Fellowcraft and Master Masons are welcome. Refreshments will follow.

Dog classes

AUBURN – The Great Falls Dog Obedience Club is starting another six-week dog obedience class Wednesday, April 11, in Auburn. The beginners’ class will be at 6:30 p.m. and advanced at 7:30. Dogs must be at least 3 1/2 months old. To register and for more information, call the club’s trainer, Diane Harrington, at 784-7578.

Appraisal night

TURNER – The Turner Historical Museum will have an antique appraisal night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12. Jim Talbot of Talbot’s Auctions will be on hand to do the appraisals. It is limited to one item a person. Suggested donation is $5. The appraisal will take place on the fourth floor in the old Leavitt Institute building. Light refreshments will be available.

Telephone Pioneers

LEWISTON – Stevens Life Member Club, Telephone Pioneers, will hold a luncheon meeting on Wednesday, April 18, at the Ramada Inn. Fellowship will begin at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon followed by a short business meeting.

Nonperishable food and monetary donations will be collected for the Brunswick Food Bank. Deadline for reservations is Friday, April 13. Make checks payable to Rita Culliton.

Screenings set

NEW GLOUCESTER – Eastgate Christian School, 68 Cobbs Bridge Road, has announced kindergarten screenings for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 23, 24 and 25. Parents should call 926-3333 for information or an appointment.

New class

MONMOUTH – The Cottrell School, in collaboration with Southern Kennebec Child Development Corp. (Head Start) will provide a 4-year-old program for the coming school year for children who meet established criteria.

Children must be age 4 on or before Oct. 15. A copy of the child’s original birth certificate, social security card and health record, including immunization dates, will be needed.

The child will be checked for height, weight, vision and hearing as well as a brief screening with a Cottrell staff member. Call the school for an appointment at 943-4426.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on April 3 were: first, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; second, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; third, Patricia Smith and Shirley West; fourth, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus; first in B, Marta Clements and Tom Boyer; second/third tie in B, Cynthia Bonsey and Helen Little with Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

No game was played on April 4 due to a snowstorm.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Tuesdays at the Multi-Purpose Center and 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 783-1734 for more information.
