LISBON – Sue Hardison’s third-grade class at Lisbon Community School recently had the opportunity to learn about money from around the world.

A volunteer, PO1 Andreas Fowler, stationed at the Brunswick Navel Air Station, spent some time with students sharing his collection of money from foreign lands.

The presentation included a collection of money from Afghanistan, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Colombia, Czech, Egypt, England, Spain, Greece, Greenland, Iraq, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy and Signorelli, Kenya, South Korea, Kuwait, Japan, Mexico Morocco, Netherlands, Panama, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Scotland and United Arab Emirates.

Fowler has been working on his collection for more than 20 years during his travels around the world with the U.S. Navy.

Students viewed the actual money while Fowler showed them the country of origin on the map. Comparisons were made to U.S. currency. A lesson originally viewed as a session on math and currency values connected with lessons in geography and languages.
