CASCO – An investigation into reported gunshots Thursday produced an arrest on drug charges.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputy Peter Anderson responded to a report of gunshots at 614 Poland Spring Road in Casco at approximately 9 a.m. Thursday. While investigating the complaint, the deputy spoke with John Alfiero, the resident of 614 Poland Springs Road.

While speaking with Alfiero, the deputy smelled the odor of marijuana coming from within the Alfiero residence, the Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.

A search warrant was obtained based on the deputy’s initial investigation.

Sheriff investigators eventually found several freezer bags of processed marijuana within the Alfiero residence, deputies said.

Also discovered in the residence were several firearms and specialized marijuana grow lights. Detectives also seized 17 packages, each of which contained the sum of $1,000, investigators said.

Deputies arrested Alfiero, 44, and charged him with aggravated trafficking of marijuana.

He is being held on $50,000 cash bail at the Cumberland County Jail.
