Around 1 p.m. a negotiator began speaking to James Michael Peters through a bullhorn. Police say Peters never responded. Here’s what one reporter heard as the negotiator tried repeatedly to get Peters to surrender:

1 p.m.

“Come out and talk to us”; “We need to work out what’s gone on and figure out what goes on from here. Let’s do that.”

1:45 p.m.

“Sorry ’bout that, Mike.”

1:58 p.m.

“We’ve got to find out what’s going on and that you’re okay. My boss isn’t going to let me go anywhere. So we can talk”

2:12 p.m.

“I’m here to help you.”; Then snatches of words – “Margaret”; “Father”; “Move to a window”

2:30 p.m.

“That’s where we’re at right now.”

3:28 p.m.

“Come on over to the doors. There you go.”; “You’re going to be okay.”; “Right here in the driveway.”

3:45 p.m.

“What would you prefer?”; “Okay, Mike, you want some more cigarettes?”; “All out.”

3:56 p.m.

“Open the door and throw it to me.”; “Hold it up to the window.”; “Open the door, walk out.”

4:09 p.m.

“Come out and we can smoke together.”; “If the phone rings, pick it up.”

4:23 p.m.

“What about going back to our main focus?”; “There are things we have to consider.”; “Come out and talk to us.”

5:25 p.m.

Shots are heard as Peters and the police exchange gunfire.
