AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library has announce that at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, Candace Kanes from the Maine Memory Network will speak about the Maine Memory Network in the Androscoggin Room.
Kanes is the curator of the Maine Memory Network, a digital museum that is a project of the Maine Historical Society. Maine Memory Network contains more than 11,000 items such as photographs, documents and museum objects that have been contributed to the database by some 160 organizations around the state.
As curator, Kanes is in charge of the content of the Web site. She selects the items from Maine Historical Society’s collections, creates online exhibits and supervises the preparation of items for the Web site.
In addition, she oversees the items contributed by other organizations and assists them in identifying collections to digitize and create online exhibits.
Kanes, a former newspaper reporter and editor, earned a master’s degree in American studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a doctorate in American history from the University of New Hampshire. She also teaches history at the Maine College of Art in Portland.
The program will especially appeal to family history enthusiasts and Maine history buffs. Call Sally at the library for more information and check out the Web site for more programs and events at www.auburnpubliclibrary.org or call 333-6640, ext. 4.
