WILTON – Western Maine Community Action Inc. is continuing to schedule appointments for the Low Income Home Heating Assistance Program for residents who have not applied since July 1, 2006.
Applications will be taken through Monday, April 30, for this program year. Applicants must have an appointment. To get an appointment, call 645-3764 or 1-800-645-9636 and ask for fuel assistance.
Applicants need to remember that HEAP is not an emergency program. It is a supplemental program that is meant to assist in paying part of a household’s heating costs.
The information gathered during the intake process for HEAP is also used for the Low Income Assistance Program, formerly known as the Electric Lifeline Program, and for the Telephone Lifeline Program. LIAP may be able to assist those eligible with a credit on their Central Maine Power Co. bill. TLP gives a monthly credit on the telephone bill. If an eligible client does not have a phone, TLP can help with an installation as well as the monthly credit.
Applications will be taken at the agency’s service center, located at Cousineau’s Mall on Routes 2 and 4, East Wilton. Appointments are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Arrangements will be made for individuals who work and can not go in during regular hours.
Western Maine Community Action Inc. is a nonprofit agency providing services to eligible people in Franklin, Androscoggin and Oxford counties. Services include health, nutritional, housing, fuel assistance, weatherization, information and referral and job training services.
