Despite Susan Strickland’s protests to the contrary (April 4), Phyllis Schafly is the true anti-feminist. And all that needs to be pointed out is her argument that married women cannot be raped by their husbands.

As a psychiatrist, I have dealt with that exact issue too many times.

One patient, a kidney transplant recipient, endured her husband preventing her from taking her anti-rejection medication, and was raped every night so he could try to impregnate her, while she lay there and tried not to think about what he was doing to her.

He could have killed her. Is that not rape?

Of course married women can be raped by their husbands. Saying “no” always means “no.” Period.

Until Ms. Schafly and Ms. Strickland, and those who live in fantasy land, can accept that life is not a fairy tale, women will have no justice.

Ms. Schafly and Ms. Strickland are contributing to the continuing abuse of women in their denial of reality.
