Hartford electing six officials June 12

HARTFORD – Elections willl be held Tuesday, June 12, for a selectman, town clerk/treasurer/tax collector, road commissioner and a SAD 39 director.

Nomination papers are available in the town office. There will be a public hearing June 5 to discuss the warrant.

The annual town meeting will be Thursday, June 14.

A comprehensive plan hearing is set for April 28 when people will discuss regional planning and affordable housing.

Youth baseball and softball registration is being done at the town office. Practice starts in May.

New watercraft law in effect

CANTON – Residents are reminded that a new law requires operators of personal watercraft on Lake Anasagunticook must be at least 18 years old.

Also, town officials are advising residents that nothing should go into the sewer system but body waste and toilet tissue. Problems have arisen from large amounts of grease being dumped into the system, which clogs up the system and damages pumps.

Diane Ray is looking for volunteers to work on a Community Center committee. The center will be a gathering place for residents and located in the new village. Most of the funding for the infrastructure of the new village has been secured, she said. With the water, sewer, electricity and roads in place, construction on some houses may begin by the summer, she added.
