NEWTON, Mass. – Maine-Farmington remained unbeaten with a softball sweep of Wheelock, 8-0 and 11-1.

Liz Bergeron scattered two hits in the opener, and pitched the final four innings of the nightcap to pick up Sarah Defilipp. Defilipp had three hits in the opener, while Lauren Overlock and Holly Tripp added two hits each.

Wesleyan sweeps Bowdoin

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Molly O’Connell grounded a single up the middle with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth inning Sunday to lift Wesleyan to a sweep of a doubleheader against Bowdoin by identical 4-3 scores.

Bowdoin (18-13) had taken a 3-2 lead in the ninth on Jayme Woogerd’s fourth hit of the game – a two-out bloop double – before the Cardinals fought back. The Polar Bears had a similar rally in the ninth of the opener, scoring a pair of unearned runs before leaving the tying run on second.

USM, Western Conn. split

GORHAM – Kristina Grondin fired a five-hitter for a 2-1 win and help Southern Maine salvage a split with Western Connecticut. The Huskies were routed in the opener, 9-0.

Pinch runner Dawn Ross scored the winning run for USM on a bases-loaded hit-batsman.

Baseball

Bowdoin 6, Brandeis 5

BRUNSWICK – Brandeis pitchers hit three batters with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to hand Bowdoin an unlikely 6-5 victory.

Pat Duchette, Nick Lawler and Tyler Turgeon were struck by pitches to drive in the winning run. Lawler and K.J. Kozens hit home runs for Bowdoin (12-11).
